As usual they are a bit late coming to the party but Microsoft has a USB Flash drive manager that is useful for performing back-ups only on XP systems.

There is also the free Briefcase program supplied with your windows installation to synchronise whatever files you specify with the contents of your USB. Remember this only synchronises files and cannot reconcile anything more demanding than this in terms of version control of files so use it with care.

Cobian backup is a freeware solution for individuals that can automatically back up as you require. Not quite as demanding as the Microsoft offering in terms of system resources but certainly more flexile. It loads onto your PC as a core application residing in the system tray, pushing your specified files at what ever is the suitable time frequency to your memory stick or whatever medium you choose for back up.
